Robert Ampeau et Fils

2002 Robert Ampeau et Fils Meursault 1er Cru La Piece Sous Le Bois 750mL

Sale price$172.00

1 in stock

A seamless and focused wine, showing both class and mineral depth, framed by silky, perfectly ripe fruit. There’s a marvelous sense of youth here, with tension and freshness balancing the richness. Layers of citrus, stone fruit, and subtle hazelnut evolve with air, leading to a long, precise finish. A striking example of aged Meursault in peak form.

Winemaking
Barrel-fermented and put through full malolactic fermentation with regular bâtonnage, aged roughly 10 months with 10-25% new oak depending on vintage (per Ampeau's importer; one other source describes the house as using mostly used barriques, so treat the new-oak percentage as approximate).

Meursault, Côte-d'Or, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, France

Vineyard
1.6-hectare parcel acquired by Robert Ampeau in 1973, the largest holding of the estate and planted entirely to Chardonnay. Among the steepest, highest-elevation sites in Meursault, just below the forest at the top of the slope and close to the Puligny-Montrachet border.
