Formally distinguished from Corvina by Cancellier & Angelini (Vignevini, 1993) after decades of misclassification as a clone; DOCG revisions in 2010 and 2019 allowing it to substitute or replace Corvina entirely drove planted area from 88 ha to over 930 ha in a single decade.
