Created in 1970 at Agroscope Changins in Pully by crossing Gamay and Reichensteiner. It was released to growers in 1990 and was adopted across western Switzerland, where it now ranks among the country’s main red grapes. It was first used to add color to blends and is now often bottled on its own.
