A 1974 replanting initiative in Valdeorras by agronomist Horacio Fernández Presa rescued the variety from fewer than 30 ha; DNA studies later confirmed it is identical to Portugal's Gouveio and a full sibling of Verdejo, both sharing parents Castellana Blanca × Savagnin.
