DNA profiling by Vouillamoz and Ortiz confirmed the commercially grown Hondarrabi Zuri is genetically identical to Courbu Blanc, first recorded in Jurançon in 1783, resolving decades of synonym confusion with at least two unrelated cultivars sharing the name.
