The story
First written down · 1929, Lauffen am Neckar
Bred in 1929 by August Herold at the Weinsberg institute’s branch in Lauffen am Neckar from Trollinger and Riesling. It received variety protection in 1969 and spread widely, peaking at about 7,800 hectares in Germany in 1992 before declining to around 1,944 hectares in 2023. Today most plantings are in Germany, with a foothold in Alto Adige.
