A 2024 genetic study (Schneider et al., Scientific Reports, PMC11137023) confirmed Besgano nero — a wild-adjacent Modena vine — as one parent, with roughly half of Salamino's genome attributed to post-domestication wild Vitis vinifera sylvestris introgression.
