The story
Also called Kakhet, this Armenian red grape had 3,490 hectares planted by the 1940s, concentrated around Echmiatsin, Vedi, Hoktemberian, and Kotayk. Today it is recorded in Ararat and Aragatsotn, and in 2015 UC Davis added a Kakhet selection to its public collection. Its origin is uncertain, with UC Davis listing Armenia possibly Georgia, and wein.plus describing an Armenia Georgia border origin. ([vini.am](https://www.vini.am/grape/kakhet))
