The story

First written down · late 16th century, Tuscany, Italy (as Mammolo, by agronomist Giovanni Soderini)

VIVC equates Sciaccarello with the Tuscan blending grape Mammolo, but a 2020 high-resolution SNP study (D'Onofrio et al.) found the registered Mammolo clone to be a parent–offspring relative rather than an identical genotype.
