The story
From the Rhône Valley in Vaucluse, where it is authorized in southern Rhône crus including Châteauneuf-du-Pape. In France plantings fell from 70 hectares in 1958 to 12 hectares in 2018, and it remains used in small amounts for aromatic lift and tannin.
