Article: Château Duhart-Milon

Château Duhart-Milon
Château Duhart-Milon is a historic Fourth Growth estate in Pauillac, with origins dating back to the early 18th century. Named after Sieur Duhart, a privateer to King Louis XV whose nickname “Milon” became associated with the land, the estate was firmly established by the time of the 1855 Classification. Its vineyards sit on classic Pauillac gravel over limestone and clay, soils that naturally favor Cabernet Sauvignon and have long shaped the château’s reputation for structured, age-worthy wines.
A major turning point came in 1962, when Duhart-Milon was acquired by Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite. Under this stewardship, the estate underwent extensive revitalization, including vineyard replanting, improved drainage, and a renewed focus on precise parcel-by-parcel farming. Today, viticulture at Duhart-Milon closely mirrors the practices of its celebrated neighbor Château Lafite Rothschild, with meticulous canopy management, organic farming practices, and careful yield control designed to enhance fruit purity and site expression.
A new addition to the shop, the 2022 Château Duhart-Milon Pauillac blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon expresses both the estate’s heritage and its rigorous vineyard work. The nose is expressive, layered with dried florals, dark fruit, and a subtle iron-like mineral edge. On the palate, it is soft and supple yet quietly powerful, revealing cassis, cedar, and graphite supported by polished tannins. Graceful and poised, the wine captures the depth and balance that make 2022 such a compelling modern vintage in Bordeaux.
