Château Margaux
2009 Chateau Margaux 750ml
Château Margaux is one of Bordeaux’s five First Growths, the only estate to receive a perfect 20 out of 20 in the 1855 Classification, and Thomas Jefferson placed it first among Bordeaux wines. In the modern age, under the direction of André and Corinne Mentzelopoulos, the estate doubled down on precision, from organic farming to making their own new French oak barrels on-site. In 2009, only 36% of the harvest became the Grand Vin. The wine spent about 21 months in barrel, a choice that preserves Margaux’s hallmark finesse and length without weight. Cabernet leads the blend.
Blueberry and cassis with acacia flower on the nose, then charcoal and forest floor drift in. The palate is rich, round and generous, with silky, integrated tannins and a weightless feel that stays fresh. Long, fine, and flavorful. This '09 is drinking beautifully now, so no need to wait, but it will continue to evolve for at least a couple of decades.

Château Margaux
His daughter Corinne Mentzelopoulos took over in 1980 and kept investing in precision farming and careful selection, supported by advisors like Émile Peynaud. The estate now manages 126 plots, makes its own barrels, and ages the Grand Vin about twenty‑one months in new French oak, with only the best lots admitted to the final blend.
Today the team farms with a completed conversion to organic practices and continues steady research, adjusting details like row orientation to protect fruit as seasons warm. Through these choices, Margaux aims for finesse and longevity in every vintage rather than sheer power.
