2023 Weingut Staffelter Hof 'Little Bastard' 750ml
You wouldn't know it by the label, but this wine comes from a historic winery in Germany's Mosel River Valley, with more than two centuries of ownership and winemaking by the Klein family. They're one of the few certified organic vineyards and wineries in the Mosel, and while they make great traditional Rieslings, this wine is part of a little line-up of natural and zero-zero wines from Jan Matthias Klein that brings incredible freshness and energy to the table. A light, electric orange wine bottled unfiltered, with a touch of natural spritz.
Tropical fruit and lemon-lime lead, with cool cucumber, a savory green edge, light floral lift, and a zippy citrus zest finish. Bright and a bit tingly, with razor sharp acidity.

- Each variety fermented separately in stainless steel with native yeast and light skin contact, then switched to 1,900 L seasoned oak fuder, with the components seeing a mix of half oak and half steel. Bottled by hand right after malo, unfiltered and unfined, with a little spent yeast left and a touch of residual CO2. No added sulfur. Certified organic and vegan.

Weingut Staffelter Hof
Jan began converting the vineyards to organic farming in 2011 and achieved certification in 2014. That same year he launched a parallel line of zero‑sulfur, unfiltered natural wines alongside the classic Mosel bottlings, an experiment that stuck and now includes Little Bastard, Papa Panda’s Rising and Orange Utan. The estate’s scale is reported differently: the producer’s history page now speaks of about 13 hectares under vine, Bowler lists 11.5 hectares with 10.2 planted, and older fair catalogs mention 9 hectares. What is constant is the mix of steep slate sites around Kröv and Dhron, and a cellar philosophy that favors native ferments and minimal handling.
