New on the Shelf: Xila Extra Spicy Licor de Agave
"Xila" means woman in Zapotec — and that's no accident. This Mexico City liqueur comes from Flor de Luna, one of Mexico's only female-owned and operated distilleries, founded by Hillhamn Salome and an all-women production team. It's a bottle with a real story behind it.The liquid itself is something special: an agave base layered with caramelized pineapple, hibiscus, lavender, clove, cinnamon, black pepper, and extra chile de árbol that earns its name. Complex, fiery, and somehow floral all at once.
Beautiful on the rocks as a slow sipper, it slides right into tequila and mezcal cocktails like it was made for them — but it also plays surprisingly well with dark rums and rich bourbons. Oh, and Bloody Mary people? This is your new secret weapon.
Try this:The Xila Mary 2 oz vodka or tequila · 1 oz Xila Extra Spicy · tomato juice · squeeze of lemon · pinch of salt Skip the hot sauce. You won't need it.
If you've been looking for something to shake things up, this is it.
